Título: Fairness Testing as a Quality Attribute in AI-Enabled Software
Resumo:
This talk will focus on positioning fairness as a core software quality attribute and on how unintended bias appears in AI-enabled systems. Drawing on empirical findings and industry observations, the talk will discuss what practitioners currently test, where important gaps remain, and how fairness tools and testing strategies can support real development workflows. The session will also show how cross-disciplinary practices can contribute to more equitable and accountable AI systems.
Mini-bio:
Dr. Ronnie de Souza Santos is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Software Engineering at the University of Calgary. His research focuses on software fairness, responsible AI, and empirical software engineering, with particular attention to how bias appears in software systems and how testing practices can address these issues. He leads the SE ALL Lab, where he and his students collaborate with a range of international partners on fairness testing, algorithmic bias, and human aspects of software engineering.
