Com o intuito de estreitar os laços de cooperação e intercâmbio de alunos com a New York University, o Centro de Informática (CIn) da UFPE traz a professora Juliana Freire do Departamento de Ciência e Engenharia da Computação do Polytechnic Institute da NYU para realizar a palestra "Integrating Structured Data on the Web". O evento acontecerá no dia 31 de julho, às 11h, no Anfiteatro do CIn.

The explosion in the volume of structured data on the Web creates new opportunities for integrating and querying these data that go way beyond the simple search capabilities provided by search engines. But it also creates challeges. Although much research has been devoted to data integration in the database community, existing techniques have limitations when applied at the Web scale, where data is highly heterogeneous and noisy. In this talk, I will present a family of information integration techniques that we designed to address these limitations. In particular, I will describe a prudent schema matching framework that we applied to Web forms and a multi-lingual schema matcher we used to match Wikipedia infoboxes in different languages. I will also discuss our experimental results which show that these techniques enable on-the-fly, automatic integration of large collections of structured Web data.
